Consciousness/Self-consciousness/Beauvoir: Already in the introduction of her study Beauvoir puts forward the thesis that the "category of the other[altérité] [is] […] as original as consciousness itself"(1).
However, this relationship with the other does not unfold as a "togetherness" in the forms of solidarity and friendship, but each consciousness is related to a different consciousness in the medium of a struggle for recognition.
